Free parking is on-site. Are you traveling by RV? The parking lot is RV- friendly, with several parking spaces available. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first- serve basis. I visited with my parents a few years ago, and the wheelchair made our experience a positive one.

I know that my Mom would have struggled walking throughout the campus. It’s never too late to experience presidential sites in the heart of America.

On a visit with my father, I learned how he learned World War II had ended. It was through the showing of a video at the Presidential Museum in Abilene that my father shared the story with me. He recalled how his mother hollered from the kitchen window to tell his father that the war was over. At the time, he was six years old and he relived that moment like it was yesterday.

Harry S. Truman Libary & Museum

The Harry S. Truman Presidential Libary and Museum has also recently been renovated. Tickets to visit are available online and at the door. Free parking is near the libary complex, in several different parking lots near the complex. The parking areas seemed chopped up to me, making it challenging for people driving RVs. You will find RV parking, but it did not appear to be an easy experience for someone driving a large RV. If you are traveling in a large RV, I would call ahead for specific instructions as to where to park.

Exhibits At The Harry S. Truman Museum

I was taken back in time when I set foot in this museum. As a young child, I admired Harry S. Truman. I’m not sure why, but I recognized him as a President of the United States.

Harry S Truman

For a class project in my elementary years, I took this presidency to a new level. There are family videos of me all dressed up as Harry S. Truman and talking about his experience as President of the US. When I stepped into this newly renovated museum, my jaw dropped.

The Harry S. Truman Libary & Museum showcases Truman’s work ethic. He played the piano, enjoyed reading, and served in World War I. You can view artifacts from his life in Independence at the presidential libary and museum.

You will be inspired by their work and the legacy that they have both left. These two presidential experiences in the heart of America will not disappoint you.
