How To Have A Perfect Day In Lawrence, Kansas

Lawrence, Kansas, is between Kansas City and Topeka, making it a great destination for many. I had visited Lawrence several years ago and my visit was OK, but it did not have me wanting to go back. I am so grateful that I recently visited and fell in love with Lawrence. Kansas University calls Lawrence home, adding more things for visitors to experience on a perfect day in Lawrence.

The restaurants offered tasty food, fun shopping lines the streets, and the outdoor experiences surprised me in a good way. Melody of Wherever I May Roam Blog and I spent a couple of days in the area and enjoyed ourselves.

Where To Stay In Lawrence

The Oread Lawrence, Tapestry Collection by Hilton offers a cozy night of lodging near the University of Kansas. Its location is great for anyone that wants to tour the campus by foot.

The hotel overlooks the University of Kansas campus. The downtown area is a short drive, adding to your base camp experience.

On-site paid parking is available, along with a covered parking garage. Bird Dog Bar is inside the hotel and offers a fantastic breakfast experience. Tip: Take the elevator to the roof top and take in the incredible view.

Delicious Bites In Lawrence

Who doesn’t love a diner? The Ladybird Diner in Downtown Lawrence will quickly win you over. The menu has a southern flare featuring buttermilk biscuits and buttermilk friend chicken.

And let’s face it…. who doesn’t love pie? Save room for a slice of your favorite slice of pie.

If you have been around here for a while, you know that I travel for bread pudding. I found a delicious bread pudding at Terrebone Po’ Boys.

Again, a taste of the south in the Midwest in Lawrence, Kansas. There’s something for your tastebuds in Lawrence, from pizza, burgers, to Cajun food, and the list goes on and on.

Explore Nature In Lawrence

The Baker University Wetlands & Discovery Center is a birding enthusiasts dream come true. Your perfect day in Lawrence, Kansas, is sure to be a fun one when you can explore the outdoors. I loved my time out in this nature center. The birding, variety of plants, and nature trails seemed endless. The parking lots and trails are open from sunrise to sunset, and it’s important to remember to pack it in, and pack it out. With more than 11 miles of hiking trails you will quickly find yourself immersed in this incredibly beautiful area of Kansas.

The indoor Baker Wetlands Discovery Center is free and offers hands-on-experiences for kids of all ages.

Several events and classes are held throughout the year, and they require registration. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, binoculars, walking shoes, and bottled water. Enjoy nature in a surprise setting, as you will be glad you made the time to visit and explore.

Political History In Lawrence

The Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics is an incredible display of American politics in action. It is free to visit and open Tuesday- Sunday from Noon – 4 pm.

The world’s largest stained-glass American Flag is a focus of this beautiful museum. Kansas politician Bob Dole’s life is told throughout the museum. Learn about Bob and his wife Elizabeth and their contributions to America.

Visit A Haunted Bathroom In Lawrence

When is the last time you visited a haunted bathroom? I had to think about when and where I had done this. I do believe that the haunted bathroom in Wonder Fair in Lawrence is the first time for me.

This fun shop moved to its current location in 2015 and weird noises started happening. The owners embraced the haunted spirits and have made their bathroom one of the must experiences in Lawrence. Trust me on this one… shop and take in a haunted experience in one stop!

Homemade Ice Cream In Lawrence

Since 1997, Sylas and Maddy’s Homemade Ice Cream has been the talk of the town.

Let’s face it, everyone loves ice cream and this ice cream shop is a busy one. Ice cream and waffle cones are made fresh daily, and they are always listening to their customers.

I am now in love with this Kansas town- Lawrence, Kansas, has won me over.

This Kansas community is welcoming and there’s truly something for everyone. I am still in awe at the nature experience at the Baker University Wetlands & Discovery Center, it’s truly one of the best in the country.
