Home to around 1,100 residents, Lake View brought a taste of Nashville to Iowa in 2025. This lively community keeps the energy going with live music performances all year long. Soak’d was selected as one of the five nominees for the Venue of the Year in the 2025 Midwest Country Music Organization Awards. Talk about coming onto the restaurant scene strong; they did that – In Rural Iowa!
Now, let’s talk about the food. The stone-fired pizza was incredible!

In fact, the Mississippi Pot Roast pizza turned out to be a favorite of several in the group I was with. You are now probably asking a question.
What’s a Mississippi Pot Roast pizza? The pizza includes a beer cheese base with steak meat, banana peppers, and crispy french fried onions on the top. This is ONE of several incredible pizzas available.
Sara’s tip: Order the popular dairy dice as an appetizer. Crispy, cube-shaped and lightly breaded cheese cubes ready to dip into a house-made ranch or chipotle sauce.

A classic soda fountain with all the deliciousness you could ask for in a lake town. Houdini’s Soda Fountain delivers. From old-fashioned malts to a delicious creamsicle- orange soda with vanilla ice cream and vanilla syrup. Chicken sandwiches, burgers, chili fries, ice cream, and beautiful craft sodas are a small sampling of what is offered.
You may be asking how the name Houdini’s came to be. It’s really quite simple. Lake View had a “stray” dog roaming the town, and it became elusive as everyone was trying to track the dog. When the dog was caught, the name Houdini stuck! I love how the dog became a part of their branding, as it’s quite recognizable.
Sara’s Tip: Order the creamsicle craft soda- the BEST orange soda you will ever have!

For a town of nearly 1,100 people, Lake View, Iowa, has an incredible food scene. I love a good Mexican restaurant, and Wow- Cielito Lindo Mexican Restaurant in the town of Lake View is delicious.
I am picky when it comes to Mexican rice in restaurants, and this restaurant nailed it- I LOVED the rice. We had tacos and rice, which made for a perfect meal for the two of us.
The indoor seating takes you to a fun Mexican Fiesta. If you are looking for good food, fun, and a taste of Mexico, this is your place in Sac County, Iowa.
Sara’s Tip: Dine in the middle of the day, as your wait time will be shorter.

Pura’s Brewtique served up the freshest cinnamon and caramel rolls I have recently enjoyed. Now that I am thinking about them, I want one now.
We also ordered breakfast sandwiches, and they were mouth-watering. This new coffee shop in Lake View won us over rather quickly.

A town of 265 residents has one of the BEST pubs I have found in the Midwest. Fat Guy’s Pub and Grub is not only a place to enjoy elevated bar food but also to gather with friends. Gather your friends to play virtual golf or try your hand at axe throwing.
Owners Colin and Caryn King have turned their restaurant into a true destination, helping revitalize Main Street in their community. (Fun fact: Colin is also the uncle of Tanner King, the talented artist behind the famous dandelion sculptures and metal artwork across Sac County and Iowa!)
Whiskey lovers unite here in Auburn, as this is one of the very few places you can order Jack Daniel’s straight out of the barrel. As for the food, I ordered the broasted chicken, built on a long-beloved Sac County recipe, and it did not disappoint. I would order it again in a heartbeat.
My only regret? Not ordering my own side of potato salad. I managed to steal a taste, and WOW!
This potato salad is just like my Grandma used to make. Fat Guy’s Pub & Grub is one of the best restaurants in Sac County, Iowa.
Sara’s Tip: Reserve the axe throwing and golf simulator experiences ahead of time.

Everyone loves a classic diner, and Hutch’s Cafe in Sac City delivers. I stopped in for a traditional breakfast with friends, and it hit every mark.
If you are looking for simple, this diner is your go-to spot. Grab your friends and family, to share a meal at one of Sac County’s best local hubs. Hungry for an egg and toast? They have you are covered. Craving an omelette ? You can choose from ham and cheese, cheese and mushroom, all meat , and more. It is located on the east side of Sac City, this Mom & Pop diner is impossible to miss. It sits right alongside a beautiful display of Tanner King’s signature metalwork, welcoming you into town.
Sara’s Tip: Dine later in the morning, as the locals recommend a slice of peanut butter pie.
No matter where you pull up a chair in Sac County, you are guaranteed three things- top-notch hospitality, big-time flavors in small-town Iowa, and a reminder to slow down and enjoy the moment. Good food and great confersation are always a winning combination in my book. Sac County will deliver every single time.
