Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is now our place to be in the winter, as the best winter days are on the beaches of Alabama. Snowbirding in Alabama makes for some incredible winter days. I’m sharing some of my favorite things to do in the winter along the Alabama Gulf Coast.
February in Gulf Shores, Alabama
Biking The Trails
We travel with our Lectric E Bikes, as they fold up and travel in our Subaru Forester. Biking is easy when we have them in our car and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail is easy to hop on when in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.
This 28+ mile paved trail system offers beautiful views and an opportunity to be up close with nature. The bridges and decks peppered throughout the trail, keep your ride interesting. I’d suggest packing a water bottle and binoculars before you head out on the bike trails.
Watching The Sunset
Sunsets (and sunrises) are magical in the winter along the Alabama Gulf Coast. I like to walk out on my balcony and take it all in. Snowbirding in Alabama is addictive when it comes to sunrises and sunsets.
When you stay at The Beach Club or Turquoise Place, your unit offers an incredible view of the Gulf of Mexico. The sun is in the south, making it the ideal time for incredible viewing.
Visit The USS Alabama Battleship
Hiking The Trails
There are several hiking trails along the Alabama Coast. The Jeff Friend Trail offers a large parking lot with a one-mile loop hiking trail. Sunscreen and bug spray will be your best friend, use them wisely. Pine Beach Trail has quickly become a favorite of ours.
The last 1/4 mile is hiking through fine, sugar sand. The view is incredible as you go over a hill and see the Gulf of Mexico. This beach has always been quiet and there have not been many people there. If you are looking for incredible beach views, Pine Beach Trail is your go-to beach.
