From The Market To The Sculptures: Mason City, Iowa Is Your Mid-West Go to Destination
Mason City, Iowa is home to architecture, great food, and great people. There’s a lot of exciting things currently happening in downtown Mason City. From now through the middle of September, Saturday mornings are booming with the Mason City Market. I recently took a stroll through the area and I must say, it’s pretty nice! Take a quick stroll through for yourself and I think you will see what I mean.
Now, put Mason City on your radar to experience the Mason CIty Market for yourself, in real life.
The newest and most exciting thing that has come to Mason City is the River City Sculptures on Parade. The sculptures are inspiring, fun, and very creative. I don’t consider myself to be a lover of art, but I do think you will agree with me that these sculptures are really unique. These creative pieces of art are the work of artists from all over the United States. You can take a self-guided tour through the architectural district and view each sculpture at an arms length away. This is a walking tour that you should plan at least an hour for. The sidewalks around this part of Mason City are level and in good repair, so getting around here should not be an issue. Here’s a glimpse of a few of the fun statues included in this self-guided tour.
Mason City is also home to the Park Inn Hotel, which is the last standing hotel in the world that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Central Park has really taken on a whole new feel since the Park Inn Hotel was revitalized. The Mason City Market is held in Central Park, where you will also find a couple sculptures as part of the new sculpture tour in Mason City, Iowa.
The Mid-West is full of a lot of unique adventures. Mason City happens to be one loaded with a lot of history and architecture. It’s also conveniently located right off of I-35, 1/2 way between Des Moines and Minneapolis.
Yes, this is my hometown, and it has been fun to see all of the license plates from all over the country in our downtown area. Mason City has a gem to share with you. Plan a visit and I have a feeling you will enjoy how casual and laid back the town is. A little R & R never hurt anyone!
