Memories In Niagara Cave
I was thrilled to have an opportunity to visit Niagara Cave with a fellow group of travel writers in Lanesboro, Minnesota. It had been more than 30 years since my last visit with my husband and two young sons. The visit that is most memorable to me, was one more than 45 years ago.
While standing in front of the chapel in the cave recently, I was taken back to the time when my brother, sister, and I stood in the same spot with praying hands. My Mother took a photo of us on that day and I am “still” searching for that memorable photo. There seemed to be beauty everywhere I looked, as I meandered through the cave. Fossils seemed to be all around, dating back 450 million years.

550 Steps
Do not let the words “550 steps” scare you from visiting Niagara Cave. Your tour guide will make the adventure fun and allow you to explore at your own pace. Yes, you do have to be able to climb and go down a lot of steps.
If you are capable of making the trek, do it! There are benches along the route and let’s face it, caves are magical places. If you do need to stop to rest, look up, down, and all around. The views in Niagara Cave are all priceless.

Enjoy The Waterfall
Niagara Cave is home to a beautiful waterfall. I have explored many caves across the United States and there are not many that have a waterfall in the cave.
As you approach the waterfall, you will hear water and the closer you get, you will hear a “roaring” stream as you are deep, inside the cave.
Other Activities At Niagara Cave
For an additional small fee, you can play mini golf outside of the cave and go gemstone panning. Concessions are available over the summer months and there is a picnic area with a playground.
This family-friendly destination is not only an ultimate cave experience, it’s also a nice place for an extended family gathering. Minnesota’s Niagara Cave is more than a cave, it’s an incredible place for families to make lifetime memories.
If you have not visited Niagara Cave in Southeast Minnesota, I’d encourage you to visit and make family memories. Make Lanesboro your base camp and you have yourself an amazing weekend away from home.
