Three Things You Need To Experience In Dubois County, Indiana
Dubois County, Indiana, sits in the southern part of Indiana and I cannot wait for a return visit. There are three things that you need to experience in Dubois County. You may be asking, “What makes these three things incredible?” I found these experiences to be unique to the area and things that I am still talking about today.
There are more than three things to see and do in the area, but these three things stood out to me as something everyone should take in.
*Thank you to Dubois County For hosting me and showing me around.
Family Roots Nursery
Family Roots Nursery is rooted in the county, as a premiere destination experience. This family-owned business is sure to bring smiles to your face. Our group participated in a pumpkin succeulent centerpiece class, which I adored. I am not an artsy person, but this is one project that I found easy and fun to do.
Now, I am not a plant enthusiast. I have always struggled with a “green thumb.” My friend Veronica of Hip Grandma, seemed to also have this issue.
“I loved every minute of our time at Family Roots nursery. Not only are owners Aaron and Andrea helpful and informative, they are kind as well. Their love for the nursery is clear, and the facility and plants are all stunning. They even helped this black-thumbed Hip Grandma pick a plant that they swear even I can’t kill. We’ll see about that. Although it’s gonna be hard to follow-through on my death threat when they promise to guide me through nurturing her to continued good health as she grows. I vowed to update them regularly and they vowed to partner with me on keeping her thriving. Andrea even sent her off with a fantastic new name: Spike Lee, who is more commonly known as a ‘Mother-in-Law’s Tongue.’ – Veronica of Hip Grandma
Now I’m thinking I should have brought home a plant to love. I’ll wait to see how the Hip Grandma does with hers. On my next visit to Dubois County, I may have to turn my black thumb into a green one.
Huntingburg League Stadium
Movie enthusiasts will love Southern Indiana. Who knew that Dubois County would have an Iowa connection? As a life-long Iowan, the Field of Dreams is something I am very familiar with. Travelers that have a love of baseball with love visiting Dubois County and Dyersville, Iowa. Huntingburg League Stadium was built in 1984 and renovated in the early 1990s. Why not make a baseball themed road-trip tour through Iowa and Indiana?
The stadium was designed to serve as home field for the Rockford Peaches in the filming of the hit motion picture, “A League of Their Own,” starring Tom Hanks and Madonna. As I listenend to our tour guide, I envisioned Tom Hanks and Madonna in the stands. The stadium is also where HBO movie, “Soul of the Game” was also filmed. You can schedule a tour of the stadium and enjoy the experience. With so many things to experience in Dubois County, place this tour at the top of your list.

Patoka Lake Wine Cruise
A cruise, lake, and wine make for a winning attraction in Dubois County. Patoka Lake is an 8,800-acre reservoir that offers a variety of recreational activities, including a wine cruise. We boarded the boat and we were off. Within 10 minutes, the wine began to pour. The boat was fairly quiet as we left the dock as everyone was taking in the scenery. Book a wine cruise through Patoka Lake Marina & Lodging, you will be glad you did!
As the wine began to pour, the laughter heated up. Who knew that a wine cruise could be so much fun? The fall colors were on the verge of breaking through towards the end of September. Depending on the year, the colors may change earlier or later. Most importantly, book a ticket for a wine cruise on one of Indiana’s most beautiful lakes, and thank me later.
Garden, baseball, and wine lovers will enjoy my top three things to do in Dubois County, Indiana. There’s more to see and do, but this will give you a “taste” of the many awesome experiences this county has to offer.
