Welcome to South Dakota
If you are traveling I-90, be sure you stop at the South Dakota Welcome Center. Welcome centers are a place to rest, picnic, and also an opportunity to speak to someone who is familiar with the area. My granddaughter loved the South Dakota Welcome Center on the eastern side of the state.
The gentleman working the counter was surprised that our final destination was not Rapid City. I told him that we were spending our time in the Glacial and Prairie Lakes Region and looking forward to exploring this area in South Dakota. Don’t get me wrong, the Rapid City area is gorgeous; but the South Dakota Glacial Lakes and Prairie Region does have a lot to offer.

A Post Office On KidStreet
My granddaughter spent a lot of time at the Post Office. She sorted and delivered many pieces of mail along KidStreet with a smile on her face.
I thought the mailboxes placed outside KidStreet storefronts was genius. Kids learned about the process of mail delivery, while having a fun time.
Treats At Cafe Oscar
Cafe´ Oscar was another busy place at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. My granddaughter observed for about five minues and then she quickly jumped in. She was making new friends, creating sandwiches and ice cream treats.
The parents and grandparents who were observing made sure the orders kept coming in. This is one of several areas within the museum that kids spent hours playing.
Agriculture Theme
As an Iowa farm girl, I appreciated the agriculture theme. Kids learned how produce was grown, harvested, and taken to the local grocery store.
The Market Fresh Grocery Store was another hit with my granddaughter.
She shopped, shopped, and shopped. The shopping carts and the checkout counters were very popular with all of the shoppers.
